The Pedal Pull will pull a single string or
a combination of
strings (up to six) to create some great guitar effects for Country, Rock,
or Blues.
The pedal pull is the closest thing to becoming a steel guitar
player, it's
the best of both worlds, guitar and steel guitar licks all coming
from the same instrument ... own one and let your creativity run wild.

The Slingshot is a B-Bender system which raises the pitch of the B string by
pulling down on a cam attached to the upper strap button, similar in operation
to a Parsons-White String Bender. The major difference between this and a
Parsons-White is that the Slingshot does not require routing the back of your
guitar out. The Slingshot attaches to the four neck screws of a bolt on type
guitar (this won't work with a glued in neck.) The Slingshot is constructed from
two plates of 1/8th inch aluminum held about 1/2 inch from each other by ten or
so aluminum spacers and screws. In between these two pieces of aluminum are
several springs and levers which form the mechanism. Also there is a tailpiece
which attaches on the lower strap button which contains another cam and spring
and which the B-String attaches to. I have the first Slingshot Paul made and
sold. The Slingshot does one thing and it does it flawlessly.
Sound: 10 Rating
I play a mishmash of rock/country/blues and the Slingshot allows you to play
pedal steel type bends on open strings and within chords. The Slingshot adds
about another two or so pounds to the guitar and the Slingshot is best suited to
a Telecaster type bolt on guitar. The Slingshot sounds great on my reissue
Fender Rosewood Telecaster.
Action, Fit, & Finish: 10 Rating
The slingshot fits Tele's like a glove since it was primarily designed for Tele's.
The workmanship is excellent which is to be expected since it the Slingshots are
handmade by Paul in his basement. There are no sharp edges or burrs on the
device at all.
Reliability/Durability: 10 Rating
When attached the Slingshot becomes part of the guitar and can be removed in
about 10 minutes if necessary. If you don't want to use the Bender while playing
you can just reattach your strap from the cam on the Bender to the main upper
strap button. Built very solidly and there isn't much to break on it.
Customer Support: 10 Rating
Paul McEwen is one of the nicest people I've met. Paul is a session guitarist
who lives in Connecticut and has played many country sessions in Nashville. Paul
attached my Slingshot while I waited and has called me several times to see how
I like it. Paul also changed the springs for me to change the tension more to my
liking and told me that if I should ever which to try different springs to give
him a call and he would put on a different set. Paul is great to deal with and
would not hesitate to deal with him again.
Overall Rating: 10 Rating
The Slingshot is a great bargain if you are looking for a string bending system.
The Slingshot only cost me $400 installed. Prices for a Parsons-White run about
$450 uninstalled or about $900 installed not to mention you have to destroy your
guitar to put one in. Fender's American Standard B-Bender is about $1100 if you
can find one and their Clarence White Model is about $3000. Paul is great to
deal with and also has an instructional audio tape and video tape on country
string bending. Paul can be contacted at
